The Apple A11 Bionic Chip is the most powerful smartphone SOC ever made till now. Absolutely no doubts on that but, what’s next ? Well, as many of you may be already aware of the the upcoming A12 SOC will get further performance boosts to new hights & it’ll reportedly build on the the 7nm Process Technology.
A recent exposure from the Apple Supply Chain suggests that the 7nm A12 SOC production may start as early as Q2 of 2018 by TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).
Qualcomm will compete the A12 with their Snapdragon 855 that’ll also reportedly be manufactured on the 7nm Process technology. Though both of these SOCs were expected to come out before the ending of 2018 but, the Snapdragon 855 may actually be a little late to the party & come out in early 2019.
Anyway, before we get 7nm Process Technology we’ll be able to see 8nm in the upcoming Snapdragon 845 & Exynos 8900 but, looks like Apple is skipping it. That’s not a bad thing at all as the main iPhone line up get’s an upgrade once in an Year so, if Apple jumps directly to the more advanced 7nm Process Technology, that’s actually a fair step towards better technology.
